Aniway 2016 - Meet me at the Hachiko Statue

Hello everyone! My goodness, it has been quite a while since my last proper drawing! The past months I've only uploaded doodles, collabs and small works.. but here's a biiiiig big proper work for once! It's my contribution to the 2016 Aniway organiser! This was my 5th year contributing.. oh boy how time flies! :'3c And I'll still happily contribute, for the drawings I make for Aniway always turn out great thanks to everyone's help! This year I went allll out with details and backgrounds and I'm very grateful for the other artists for helping me get through this and make the best of it!

As you may have already guessed, this year I picked the color orange! (no shit haha) I decided I wanted to draw my OCs Michiko and Egao-ho since they both fit this color well. I wanted to draw something happy and sunny (unlike me last two contributions p: Ripped angle and scary bones-boy) but I wasn't sure what I wanted to draw yet.. after a few concepts I decided to stick with something very dear to me: Hachiko! The story of Hachiko always touches my heart and it's my greatest wish to visit his statue someday. But in the time that I cannot visit, I have hereby drawn him instead!

I used a toooon of reference pictures for the buildings, the statue, the vegetation, the camera, etc. Some parst of this drawing, the camera, the statue and surrounding wall, where even traced from pictures. I wanted as much accuracy as possible and this was the easiest way :'3c I did draw all the stones and details and such by eye, but tracing the outlines was very helpfull!! Also changed the camera's overal look to avoid trouble haha;; The buildings in the back were partly traced from other pictures (which was a hassle btw, finding the right pictures and their right placement and size) and partly drawn by eye. Overal.. it was a LOT of work!! ovo;; Not to mention the coloring my goodness..!! But I won't go into detail too much about that. Just accept that it took quite a while x'D I think the overall time for this drawing was about 18 hours..? Welp, a lot at least. But it was defenitely worth it!! I feel like this is one of my best pieces up to date!
